I guess the first thing you need to know about me, is that my real name isn’t Robin St. Croix. It’s Valerie Francis, and I’m a best-selling indie author, story editor and creative entrepreneur. I use a pseudonym because under my own name, I write middle grade fantasy fiction. I like to say that I write for kids and their moms, and two pen names makes it easy to distinguish between the genres. After all, the content in my love stories is, how shall I put this … a bit mature for younger audiences. It’s a whole different kind of fantasy.

The second thing you need to know is that I’m a Story addict. Yup, I capitalized it on purpose – it’s that important. I love all things Story. Writing it. Reading it. Analyzing it. Studying it. But then, you want that in an author, right?

(Ok, so here’s the part where I get philosophical.)

I believe that Stories are an integral part of our world. We tell them to our children at bedtime, to ourselves when we set or avoid goals and to our employers during job interviews. From Icarus (the danger of flying too high, and the even greater danger of flying too low) to Charlie Brown (the importance of persistence), stories teach us about what it means to be human.

We need them, to learn and to grow.

(And here’s the part where I get real.)

I think that going against the grain and shaking things up, is a really good thing. Of course, if you’ve read the first chapter of Masquerade Part 1, you already know that about me. If you haven’t, you can download it here for free. And then you may want to remove the conditioner from your shower. Or not.

Deviance is an asset. (God, I hope my teenagers aren’t reading this.) That’s why I named my publishing company Fifth Hammer Books. It’s a reference to the myth of Pythagoras and the blacksmith’s shop and is the way I remind myself that the best ideas, like the best stories, work precisely because there is tension.

So, that’s me.

And now, I’d love to hear about you! Send me an email, or connect though any of the social media links below, and tell me what other books you like to read!

Oh, PS – I’m also a runner. And I collect fountain pens. And ink. I mention this because it’s bound to come up in the blog.

Wait … wait … PPS – If you’re still reading this and want to learn more about what I do, head over to my other website I’ll see you there!

Rats. There’s one more thing. PPPS – If you’re a journalist or podcaster and want a version of this bio you can read on air, you’ll find it on the media kit page.
